Update on the Mentoring Project

Notes From the Mentoring Project

Today was our first meeting for the project. I think we got a lot done. We split our meetings up in two parts. We start with the business of being an artist, the management of a professional art career and then we talk about the process of painting and do a critique of the paintings they bring. My dear friend Davis records our sessions for us with notes and then sends them to us. How wonderful is she for doing this? Thank you Davis!!

We will see how we progress along for the next 11 months. I have no expectation of results other than the sincere desire to help these artists to make their journey more efficient than mine was years ago. I have faith in their abilities and know that they will not waste this opportunity. They are my friends and I love them. I'm very proud of them for taking this on. It is not easy and requires a good deal of time on their part to complete the assignments for a year. For myself, this will sharpen my skills in critiquing work, in effective marketing and my own work ethic. I hope it is going to be good for everyone.

I have been incredibly busy of late, planning a shindig for the Six Artists Six Prairies project's last event in February, working on the paintings from my first residency project and various other activities, and trying to paint every day. Tomorrow I am off to the wonderful Fair Oaks for a happy day of painting and lunch with my friends there. Yippie!!!!
