This and That 01/08/12

Notes from all over the place!!

The lull after the holidays is officially over. My students came back this week. I had a wonderful time painting on Friday with my private student and then Saturday, working with my Open Studio Class above.

I tried out my first Sunday of freedom at my favorite place in the world, Fair Oaks. I tried out my new transport system for plein air work. I had to give up my back packs due to some spinal and rib cage deterioration, so I decided to use one of the office file boxes on wheels. I used to use those before I went to backpacks, so I decided to try a file cart again. Now they make these cool briefcases that fit on the front of the cart. They look like a computer bag with zippered compartments. They velcro strap to the outside of the cart on the front. Awesome!! Now I can carry my promotional materials with me without messing them up.

Tonight I packed the car and I'm off tomorrow to New Smyrna Beach for my first residency for 2012 as part of the Artists in Residence Project.  I'm going to look around and think about where I want to paint a larger work. It has to be pretty easy to get to. I'm going to take my TV Table and my table top easel to use for a larger canvas. I may do it at the National Park or JB's Fish Camp or I may go up to the loop. That might be the best place. I can work on it for the day and then take lots of reference photos to finish it back at the studio. This non back pack plein air world is going to take some adjusting to. I've never been one to take a bunch of stuff around.  I know that eventually I will give up paint outs for that reason. Fair Oaks is ideal because I have a golf cart that I can pull right up to the car and load into. I can paint in the cart, with plenty of shade, away from the snakes, bugs, and Poison Ivy. Eventually, I'll simply paint at FO or my own neighborhood, but hopefully I will be mobile for a long time to come, with some adjustments.

I'll post again on the flip side of New Smyrna Beach.
