Yesterday I took most of the day off to play on the computer and get my studio ready for my monthly classes this weekend. Plein Air Monthly will be at Kanapaha Gardens on Saturday at 9 AM. My studio class will be Sunday at 2 PM at my studio.
I bought 5 new tabletop easels. They are really cool. Collapsible metal, made by Weber. Super light and they come in a nice little drawstring bag. I can put them away when I don't need them. I have 11 easels now for my studio class. I can squeeze another two people in at the workbench. I love the two classes and look forward to them every month.
After my classes this weekend it will be time to start packing stuff for Epcot Center paint out and the Heart of Florida paint out, both in April. This year we are allowed to sell the little paintings we do at Epcot Center right in the park, so that will be great.
Still in March I have the West Coast workshop and the Garden Party. After all that, it will be time to settle in for some serious time at my easel on my Florida River Series. I have neglected it this month but no worries, I'll have the summer to paint before I leave for the Workshop at John Campbell Folk School.
I finally gave up on getting any free help for my web site software problem. I have hired a computer repair service to come out this evening to check it out and hopefully reinstall my software. It has been several weeks since I could go in and update my web site. Very frustrating, but I have hope that they will be able to resolve the problem. I miss my web site and I miss sending out the E-painting each week.
I'm excited to share that my first KIVA loan is re payed. I was able to help a clothing designer from Guatemala buy materials and supplies for her business. She payed her loan back in just 6 months. Today I re-invested my money in a loan to a woman in the Middle East, who is in need of equipment for her beauty shop. I did this in honor of my daughter, who is a new hair stylist. I like the idea of helping people in developing countries to grow their businesses. I was talking to a friend yesterday about how much I wish we artists could start a bank a loan company just for artists. A way to support each other with emergency funds, equipment and so forth. It has long been a dream for me. Sort of a KIVA for the arts. There have been many desperate times in my career, when I could have used a helping hand. I'm sure that is true for many artists.

I'm back to the gouache studies after missing that for about two weeks. I think some of the key to gouache is to use large flat shapes without too much fussy detail. Because it is a mat finish the larger shapes seems to work well along with dry brush technique.

I had never heard of Kiva, until now, what a great idea. It can make all the difference having what can seem like a small amount of money to some, to kickstart a business (I could have done with it myself at times) - as you said, if only there was a specific one for artists...
PG,
I discovered Kiva last summer, thanks to Nancy Moskovitz. I think it is a great way to do something positive. I will never miss the money I have invested, because each time the loan is payed off, I re-invest in someone else's business. I especially love the idea of empowering women in some of these countries where they are mistreated.

Linda
Another lovely painting.
I wish I could look at a painting I like and identify the elements that make it stand out for me, but usually I just like it. Let's see... I like the dark light pattern, the way the path leads the eye around and the colors... Maybe its the magic of how those things intermingle on the canvas that does it...
Marian,
Thank you so much for the kind comments. I really appreciate them so much!! :>)
