The Next River Study, Organized my mobile studio,Casserole with Sausage and Hash Browns

Here are two more acrylic on watercolor paper studies of the river.
4x6 inches

I think these will give me enough information to tackle the large format painting in oil. These versions have a far simpler composition with little activity in the back ground. I think the Notan process is more successful in these and they have better value structure overall. These studies will help me solidify what I want to do with the painting. I just love new subjects and projects. The discovery and research prior to doing a big painting is so interesting to me.

I spent a fair amount of time today cleaning up and organizing my mobile studio. I keep a separate studio set up in the trunk of my car with at least two mediums at a time. Right now it's oils and watercolor. I discovered long ago that life is easier when you have full studio set ups for both plein air and studio. Let's face it, I'm lazy. The other reason is that it is too easy to forget to load items when you are moving them back and forth between your car and studio. Ideally, I would restock and clean equipment right after getting home from plein air sessions, but I never do that. I'm tired when I get home and not in the mood to clean and sort equipment. Instead, I do it the day before I know I will be going out to paint again on location. The biggest messes occur when I am on extended trips for pofessional paint outs and teaching workshops. What a disaster that becomes!!! Paint filled paper towels everywhere, dirty solvent and brushes combined with exhaustion are not a pretty picture for my equipment.

I'm off to my Plein Air Monthly class this morning. I'll show you some pictures.

Bake @ 350 degrees for 45 minutes (or until done). This is a great casserole for company!!!!
